Born and raised in London, Jo Baker was artistic from an early age, drawing, painting and sketching as a means of expression and play. Her curious and experimental mind led her to cover the lips of her friends with glitter glue in art class because she thought it would look cool—which it did—much to the art teacher's shock. Four years part time at the world’s busiest makeup counter at Selfridges London combined with an intro course at London College of Fashion provided her the ultimate education and hands-on experience where she learnt to paint every kind of face from all walks of life around the world.
When she was asked by a photographer friend to do a shoot with Usher, it changed the course of her career. He sponsored her visa and in 2004, Baker took a suitcase of makeup and in a hazy day dream, moved to Los Angeles. Soon she was also working with 50 Cent, Kayne West, Eminem, even Will Ferrell, and quickly became a go-to for male grooming. Then came actress Lucy Boynton and her press tour for Bohemian Rhapsody in 2019. Each one of Boynton’s appearances was a chance for Baker to fully flex her creative muscles, with Boynton all in.
Her daring, non traditional approach has paid off, and today, Baker’s red carpet regulars have included Salma Hayek, Jennifer Lawrence, Natalie Portman, Elizabeth Debicki, Leslie Mann, Emmy Rossum, Vanessa Kirby, Kristen Wiig, Cindy Crawford, Naomi Scott, Emily Ratajkowski, Britney Spears, Demi Lovato, Kathryn Hahn, Joey King, Mackenzie Davis, Yara Shahidi, Lucy Fry, Maude Apatow, Paris Jackson, Lydia Hearst, Jessie Buckley, Olivia Wilde, Diana Silvers, Imogen Poots, Bryce Dallas Howard, Florence Pugh, Margaret Qualley, Eiza Gonzales, Alexandra Shipp, Ella Balinska, Ruby Rose, and Larsen Thompson.
